Maker Monday: Crafty Stars Studio

My name is Lisa Anne Gorman and I'm the owner of a little business in Ottawa, ON. Originally from the south of England, I moved to Canada back in 2011 and have grown up in Canada for the last 10 years. I'm an adventurous person and my new adventure is to build up my new business with products that I love to make! It makes me very happy to share my creations with everyone and I very much hope others enjoy what I create!

Am I able to order a customized keyring from you?

Absolutely! A few of my product ads may have specific themes, however, all designs are customizable and have their own page to order on etsy! I currently have 34 different colors to choose from!

What products does you like busienss sell?

My business currently sells customized keyrings, bracelets, candles, and digital templates. Later this year even more product lines will be available! Including kitted wear, decorations, soaps, and more! All items are handmade by myself and I fully enjoy each and every item I create!

How can I follow your business? Anyone can find Crafty Stars through Facebook, Instagram, pinterest, and even TikTok! And through etsy for when you'd like to make an order ;) you can also dm me through Instagram, Facebook, or by email to make an order!

What does being a Maker mean to you? Being a maker means so much to me! To create things for others and to see them enjoyed and used is just an amazing feeling.

What motivates you to create? Knowing that I've made something that makes another happy is one of the main reasons why I started my business last year.

How have you developed your skills? I learn from others and by A LOT of trial and error, after that I use my newfound knowledge to create something I would be proud to sell!

Where are you from and how does that influence your work? I'm originally from England. When I was a little girl, I used to create scoobies (or scoubidou) keyrings out of fun. Before finding my passion with them again last year, I loved making them even when I was a little girl. I wanted to bring some of my childhood back to the present and share it with the world!

How has the pandemic impacted your creativity? I think if it wasn't for the pandemic for realizing you shouldn't wait to go for what you want and my extremely supportive boyfriend, I probably wouldn't have had the guts to go forward with my passion. I am extremely thankful to this man and love him to the moon and back!

What is your favorite thing you've created and why? My favorite product I've create so far are my zebra themed keyrings. The colors are just so vibrant against the black and white stripes and I just absolutely love them!

Tell us about your first sale My first sale was one of my pride flag keyrings! I had to stop myself from doing a happy dance when I was at work because I was sooooo excited that someone wanted to purchase my work!

What is your dream project? My dream project would be a bulk order with multiple different designs and colors.

How do you know when you've finished a project? When I smile at the results and I can't wait to show the world!

What are your long term goals? My long term goals would obviously be to run this business full-time but I know that is a long time coming haha

What steps are you taking to ensure your growth as a maker? Creating new products frequently! Make sure to follow my social media accounts to stay updated!

What inspires you? Everything!

What initially drew you to your craft? Bringing my childhood back to the present.

Why are humans creative? Because life would be extremely dull if humans aren't creative!
