Meet the Maker Month: Anna of Handmade and Hygge

Hi, I'm Anna! I am passionate about working with simple, natural materials (especially macrame!), and my intention is always to "infuse" creations with positive, hygge vibes and warmth while I remain present in every step of the creation process.

What inspired you to start your small business? I was inspired to start my little business as I began creating Christmas decorations when I had family and friends wanting to purchase the Yule-themed items I was making. With my inner spark of creativity reignited I decided to start my small business. I began getting to know the members of my community through this new endeavor and haven't looked back (and it's been just about one year so far!).

Where do you see your small business in the future? I would LOVE to be creating handmade items full-time. Perhaps having a boutique featuring both my creations and those of other talented makers in Montréal!

What is the biggest obstacle as a Maker? Time! I wish I had so much more time to make all the ideas swimming around in my brain come to fruition!

What does being a Maker mean to you? Being a maker takes on many meanings for me. It gives me a creative outlet, brings me balance, but most precious to me is that it allows me to connect and share my creations with others.

Where are you from and how does that influence your work? Born and raised in Montreal and am of Italian origin. (Despite many clients wondering if I am Scandinavian because of my passion for the "hygge life" I am a true Montrealer at heart!) I think being trilingual, being raised in an eclectic and culturally-rich city like Montreal has allowed me to be open and curious to all types of cultural experiences. I credit this for my interest and discovery of the hygge philosophy.

What is your favorite thing you've created and why? I have to say I don't have one particular thing that is my favourite to make. However, my favourite moments are when I, or a client has a new exciting idea that I start creating! (Oh, and not to mention when I'm all done and I take a moment to admire the finished product, love that too.)

Do you accept commissions? I do and am super excited to be working on my biggest commissioned piece at the moment!!

What inspires you? My clients, nature, boho-style and hygge vibes of course!

What three adjectives would you use to describe your work? Mindful, positivity, whimsical.
