Meet the Maker Month: Samantha of Magicvills

Hello, I’m Samantha. I’m a 32 years old full-time mom of two. I’ve been making hair care products for a year now and I’ve decided to make this my everyday job. I always had a passion for hair and being able to make all-natural, planet-safe products without harsh chemicals is a dream. I appreciate all of your support.

What does being a Maker mean to you? Being a maker for me is like a new way of living. New ideas and projects are always on the go. Being at home with two kids made me really anxious and I needed a change. Investing in my dream is the best decision I’ve

made.

What motivates you to create? Having healthy hair care products that are planet safe

How have you developed your skills? Over the years looking at YouTube videos about hair care routines and hair journeys. I know a lot about hair. Making cosmetics is new for me though but it feels like I’ve been doing this forever.

Where are you from and how does that influence your work? I grew up in a village in a forest far from town and I think this has had a big influence on my passion for the earth and hair care. I know a lot about plants, trees, oils…

How have your life experiences shaped your art? I graduated from cosmetic school but ended up in another job that suited me better. I don't like being in crowds. So being at home for me is the best option and making cosmetics is the job I was looking for.

How has the pandemic impacted your creativity? I started my business 2 months before the pandemic and when the pandemic started my sales went crazy so every week I was creating ideas for more products

What is your favorite thing you've created and why? Whipped shampoo in a jar is definitely my best seller it's my favorite also because every jar has its own personality I can play with the textures, the smell, the colors...

Tell us about your first sale My first sale was a whipped shampoo in a jar. It was late at night and I heard my cellphone buzz I was super excited and happy

How do your interests shift from one project to the next? It depends on the weather and how I’m feeling (my mood)

Describe your latest project The bedtime scalp spray is a cute way to relax at night ..winter inspired me to make it.

How do you know when you've finished a project? The label is on

What steps are you taking to ensure your growth as a maker? Making magical products

What initially drew you to your craft? Anxiety was taking over me I needed a change and something to put my mind at

What three adjectives would you use to describe your work? Unique, feminine, safe

What story do you want to tell with your work? Hair doesn't need strong shampoos or heat to make it look pretty and grow long. Going natural is best for your scalp and hair and also safer for the planet.
