What inspired you to start a business? I love making undergarments and I want to share them with others. I love making things for people and find it to be a rewarding part of the creative process.
How did you come up with your business name? Jess mess is the name of my Tumblr blog when I was a teenager. I was very creative at that age and I used to love fashion blogging.
What is your favorite thing that you make and why? I love to make and wear velvet undies because I love the way that they make me feel and they are so soft.
Tell us about the progress you've made since you first started I’ve just started my business in February so it’s all very new and exciting for me.
Describe your creative process Messy / exciting / slow / brave / curious / fun / love
What is the best part of being an entrepreneur? I love to keep busy. I identify more with being creative than an entrepreneur so I’m still navigating the business side of things. This is project is really for me to pour my creative meanderings into and I’m not taking it too seriously. I’m just letting myself create and share.
What is the hardest part of running your own business? Social media is strange. I don’t like that part. I love taking pictures and photographing my work but uploading and posting and sharing content I’m not so good with. I wish things could be a little more organic in that sense.
What are your business goals for the future? I am designing some sewing workshops and hope to bring sewing lessons to jess mess in the new year. I’m currently working on a digital pattern for my Sun and Moon Set and I picture myself teaching and sharing this pattern in the future.
Do you have any animals? Yes, I have a chunky cat named Clifford and a doggo named Faith.
